How to Help Local Charities to Raise Funds by Hosting an Event
Host a local fundraising event at a local shop in your area
There are so many good causes that need our help, and as small business owners we can only do so much so maybe next time, instead of asking your local small business for a donation, you can host an event through it.
Here's how an event can be used to raise money for a good cause:
Organize a Fundraising Event here if you are in Northeast Ohio or Western Pennsylvania - if not, then somewhere near where you live!
You and your helpers would be responsible for printing out flyers for your "Shopping at Diana's Gift Shop for ________ Fundraising Event " and then getting the word out to BRING IN A FLYER AND SHOP.
10% of sales (before taxes) from each person who brings in an event flyer on that day will be donated to your charity or organization.
Fundraising events do not require a minimum number of partakers, but of course, the more folks that you send in who remember to bring in the flyer - the more that your cause can earn.
*You are welcome (and encouraged) to be here all during event day to welcome folks and thank them for supporting your cause.
During your event day, please take photos and post them to your facebook and twitter... to help encourage even more folks to come out in support. If you would also like to hold a donation can while hosting your event here, you may as there may be some folks who would rather just stop by and donate or shop and still donate more.
Turn a fun day of Treasure Hunting with friends into a money-maker for your fundraiser :)
*Lay-Aways and Lay-Away payments will not count toward the total as these purchases will not start and end on that single day.
Stop by to see me to make the arrangements for your fundraising event.
How this would work:
Here's the scoop about how this sort of thing works:
- We will jointly pick a day. Shopping hours will likely be between 10 and 4 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and noon-4 if on a Wednesday.
- You will make flyers (including the information below about my gift shop so folks know what to expect and include instructions to bring it in so that 10% of the sales will go to your cause and what day...) and you and your helpers hand them out and spread the word on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and in your group and ask all members to help.
- When folks come in to shop for the fundraising event and turn his/her flyer in at checkout, I will write down the sales total on the back of each one and keep track of them until the event is over.
- I will then total them up and give you a call or send a message on facebook with the amount that was earned for your cause on your chosen day and 10% of all receipts during that time would be donated to your organization.

Local business helping local charities and local people
We are local and we support local too
This little gift shop was started in September 2009 by Goldie who was fighting breast cancer. (We lost Mom in March 2013)
Giving back to our local communities has always been important to us so we have always done what we could to help local folks and local charities by donating an item or a gift basket... to various local fundraisers.
Sadly, there are just too many out there who want/need a donation and we just cannot accommodate all of them. So, we have decided to allow folks to set a date to host a "Shop for ________ Fundraiser" where they could send folks in to shop and we would donate a percentage of the regular sales to his/her cause.
This way, we can help as many local charities as we can help and people who are facing medical bills or other troubles and who could sure use a little good news and all involved can have a fun day of shopping with friends as well.
Maybe your local area could do this too ?
Please feel free to share some of my ideas here on this page with the folks in your area to see if something like this could help in your own community to benefit your local charities and other groups (schools; clubs; troupes; and others...) who need to raise money, but please do not copy my hard work.
If you do something like this in your area, please let know how it goes.
If you have done these types of events before and can offer any tips for my readers, please put them in the comment section below.
